This
is the 2nd year for this now annual event
benefiting the Children’s Cancer Fund, underwritten by Scott
Henkin of Karaoke King and his team of volunteers. Last year,
KaraokeFest took over the entire parking lot on the corner of
Keller Springs & Josey Lane raising almost $16,000.00. This year
the event was held at Neotropolis in Carrolton, raising around
$7,000.00. Neotropolis is a huge family gaming center. It has
several auditoriums, a theater, coffee bar, & a huge game room.
KaraokeFest utilized the entire establishment preparing for the
crowds. In the large auditorium Ernie Ferguson of Primetime
Productions hosted karaoke on the main stage (stage 1) for those
who collected over $500.00 in pledges. They sang while introduced
by celebrities Brendan Higgins & Kristi Nelson of NBC5 and also
Pugs & Kelly acting as guest emcees for the event. They also had
a magic show and several other children’s act before ending with
Matthew JC & Friends scattered during the afternoon on the main
stage. Robert Thomas of Dazzle Entertainment hosted karaoke on
stage 2 in the theater and Mike Richardson of Center Stage hosted
karaoke on stage 3 in the coffee bar at the main entrance. To
sing on stages 2 & 3 required a donation to CCF of $5.00 purchased
at the entrance. Neotropolis opened the regular concession stand
up charging $1.00 over the regular amount in donation it to CCF.
Venders lined the walls between the auditoriums. Venders
included: Karaoke King, Jammin’ Jay’s Magical Karaoke, Funtime
Karaoke, 2 different jewelry venders, health care, Musical
Journeys & Vacations with Janet Lanza, & The DFW KJ Alliance
representing Krank It Karaoke, Karaoke With Kelly, Little Sister
Productions, Michael Dean Productions, Karaoke PitStop Internet
Magazine, Tone Deaf Entertainment, Jammin’ Jay’s Magical Karaoke,
Classic Entertainment, All Star Karaoke, Spotlight on Karaoke,
Heart & Soul Entertainment, & DW’s Karaoke. There were programs
available & T-shirts were priced at $10.00. The gaming room had
many free games open including billiards, air hockey, video games,
hoops, bouncers, & face painting. NBC5, the Dallas Observer, &
Karaoke PitStop covered the event on site. It was a great
location, great cause, wonderful volunteers & entertainment.
Everything was primed for a massive crowd from 1:30-7:30. Sadly
the crowd did not come. This does not mean that the folks who did
make it did not enjoy themselves. Maybe next year we will meet
the $100,000.00 goal to help fight cancer in children.
